Another week… Sheesh, time really does fly!
22 MAR 2009 – 1 miles
23 MAR 2009 – 1 miles
24 MAR 2009 – 1 miles
25 MAR 2009 – 1 miles
26 MAR 2009 – 1 miles
27 MAR 2009 – 3 miles
28 MAR 2009 – 4 miles
12 miles Total this week
54 miles Total to date (946 to go)
So this is kind of exciting, and kind of disappointing all at once. On the one hand – I’ve walked 54 miles! I could have walked to downtown Detroit from my home in Ann Arbor! But on the other hand – I’ve walked 54 miles. I have 946 to go. <sigh> I suppose the idea was to challenge myself.
I’ve been reflecting a lot this week on how very disappointed I am with my elected representatives. They have simply failed to represent in just about every way. I write them several times a month, and they just send me form letters back, and nothing ever changes.
Here’s the legislation I’d like to see them bring:
#1 – Paid lobbying is illegal.
#2 – 1 Representative for every 100,000 citizens (the ratio is currently 1:600,000).
#3 – Alter federal voting law to allow 1% of a national vote to trigger National Party Status.
It also appears clear to me that the republic is in dire need of a council — a Constitutional Council II if you will. Here’s what I’m thinking: our elected officials get together, and just read the document. Then reflect on it; perhaps listen to some poetry about it; look at it and appreciate it. I’m hoping that would be enough to stop business as usual around here, and get us back to basics and first principles.
Maybe the kids and I should stop by their respective offices with this little manifesto.
